Celebrating International Women's Day

When the WEVA Board of Directors met this month to plan our upcoming Member Meet Ups we talked about International Women’s Day and how we might celebrate this day.

As a board of women, we believe in lifting other women up! And as women who care about ALL women—including Trans women and gender non-conforming people—we know that we have a responsibility to step into our roles as allies and strive to become better advocates for all communities that have been marginalized and left out of the conversation.

WEVA’s mission is to help our members walk the walk to become better allies—not just in name and word, but in real life situations, too.

The truth is, in the wedding industry, there’s a lot of exclusion built into our sales language and the way we speak to clients. What if your business is unintentionally excluding people out of habit or lack of attention to the choices you’re making? How can you create a truly safe and welcoming event experience for your customers?

The first step is to make a commitment to continued learning around diversity, inclusion and equity so that you can recognize and eliminate practices that are inherently biased, racist or discriminatory within your business.

The easiest way to hold yourself accountable and connect with a community of likeminded businesses who can help support you in this commitment is to join us as a member of WEVA and invite your friends to make this commitment, too.

We’re having our March Member Meet Up on March 22nd at 4pm and you can register HERE.

Before the Meeting You Might Listen To Brene Brown with Aiko Bethea onThe Dare to Lead podcast. These conversations are foundational to how we can talk about inclusivity at work and the difference between transactional vs transformational leadership: and allyship:

We look forward to seeing you at the March Meet Up and talking with you then!
