5 Reasons Why Your Business Should Have an Antiracism Policy

Over the last few weeks, Wedding and Event Vendor Alliance has welcomed our first 100 members to our grassroots organization!

Today, we have a follow-up to our January meeting where we walked new members through how to add an anti-racism statement to your website. (Note: Members will find a replay in the member-only area of our website!)

In this conversation, three of our board members, Maricela Ehmann, Phebe Robinson-Higgins, and Alison Ellis, got together to talk more about what it means to move beyond the black square in the wedding and event industry. We walk you through the process we followed to create our Wedding and Event Vendor Alliance Anti-racism Statement and why your business should have an anti-racism policy as well.

Here are 5 Main Bullet Points from our chat:

  1. Having an antiracism policy should become the norm in the wedding and event industry.

  2. Customers will respond to your policy (and that's a good thing).

  3. Weddings are a highly personalized experience; the know, like and trust aspect is huge.

  4. We shared the Wedding and Event Vendor Alliance Anti-Racism Statement (which you'll find HERE).

  5. Anti-racism (beyond the black square) and Inclusion (moving beyond LGBTQIA+ "friendly" and into fully accepting and loving) requires continued self-education and awareness to serve our clients and our communities.

As we mentioned in our livestream, our non-profit organization is focused on the positive growth of the industry. This includes creating a future that is focused on:

  • Safe & Healthy Events,

  • Inclusive & Loving Spaces,

  • Anti-racist Policies that benefit vendors and clients alike.

Our next live chat will be focused on Wedding and Event Safety as we continue to navigate the logistics of gathering (or limiting gathering) during Covid-19.
